Monika Mackevičiūtė

Orthodontist

I started on my career path early, as I was born and raised in a family of dentists.

My values and professional aspirations have been shaped thanks to my parents – great professionals who are constantly improving their professional knowledge, exploring new professional horizons, and genuinely caring about the comfort and health of their patients. The most memorable phrase that my dad, Dr. Astijus Mackevičius, often repeats is “Always treat your patients as you would treat yourself.” This is what I apply to my patients too.

I knew that dentistry was a hard job, requiring extreme care, attention, and continuous improvement, but the hard work would be rewarded by the smiles of happy patients.

“During my studies, I decided that I wanted to specialise in orthodontics. My main goal as a dentist is to offer my patients the most comfortable, fastest, and most effective treatment methods.”

That is why I chose the difficult but important path of dentistry, which has been one of high professional standards, continuous improvement of my knowledge, and care for people’s health – a path whose importance has been evident to me since childhood, and whose continuation I have made my professional mission.

Having been in the position of an orthodontic patient and having personally experienced orthodontic treatment on several occasions over a number of years, I can understand the patient’s point of view and I am very impressed with this area of dentistry.

Education

After successfully completing my studies at the Faculty of Dentistry of Vilnius University, I worked actively in the field of general dentistry for about 4 years, where I gained invaluable professional experience and competencies. This experience is still very useful for treating and advising patients – For example, during an examination, I am able to identify not only orthodontic but also other dental problems. This helps me to maintain a broad professional approach to each clinical case and to provide patients with comprehensive dental care. After all, dental treatment plans often involve many areas of dentistry.

Eventually, my thirst for knowledge and new professional experiences led me to Israel, where I completed my orthodontic residency at Tel Aviv University, which lasted almost 4 years. I chose this university because it is well known for its high level of training programmes and because orthodontics is one of the oldest fields of dentistry taught there. While there, I had another invaluable opportunity to get to know different orthodontic schools around the world. As the clinic professors were from different countries, I was able to absorb the latest orthodontic treatment techniques, learn from the world’s leading orthodontists, and do my training abroad – in Germany, Belgium, the UK, and many other countries. I also defended my Master’s thesis “Factors determining the extraction decision making process among different orthodontist groups.”

I have brought back to Lithuania the accumulated knowledge, competence, and rich experience that I gained, which I have successfully applied in the treatment of my patients, always adhering to my professional credo - "Reaching the top of one mountain means the beginning of a new one, so never stop climbing" - which means to always keep improving.
Yours truly,
Dr. Monika Mackevičiūtė
